She has 2 companies that she runs, Shreddy.com, which sells fitness kits and protein bars for women, and Tala.com, which sells workout gear for women.
And in 10 minutes or less, you’re going to learn:
✔️Why you need a “simple” business
✔️Why digital products are the BEST
✔️How she made millions and spent $0 on marketing
QUICK SUMMARY
TLDR:
Grace started her first business at just 18 years old. She started posting her fitness journey on Instagram because she would constantly struggle, so posting about it would help keep her accountable. She quickly grew to 30,000 followers in one year with her fun and simple workout and meal prep content.
She was going to Oxford University, and registration emailed her stating that she was suspended due to not paying for her classes. At that moment she panicked, and tried to figure out how to make money quickly. She decided to create a workout guide that had an entire meal plan and workout regimen, and she started selling it to her followers.
The first day she posted about her PDF, she made $15,000! Over the course of the next few years, she continued to make content on YouTube and she sold a total of 300,000 PDFs, which brought her over $12 million in revenue!
Bro, PDFs?
The only PDFs I read are the free versions of my college textbooks.
Who knew people were buying Lambos from them?
I also love her story because it proves one thing.
A simple business can still make you filthy rich.
1. Her product was simple.
In business, simplicity is key.
I know everyone sees Elon Musk starting 3 new companies every day and wants to be just like him.
And yeah that looks cool, but in reality, that will destroy your business.
When things get too complicated, everything falls apart.
That’s why we all love iPhones because they are so simple.
Even though they are all the same SH!T.
But, that’s the best part about Grace’s business.
It’s just simple AF.
Grace started her business when she was a freshman at Oxford University.
Grace had the same problem that we all have.
She could never stick to the gym.
To hold herself accountable, she created an Instagram page to document her fitness journey.
And her videos were boring as hell.
Her viewers were like:
She even mentioned that she didn’t understand why so many people watched them.
But the simple nature of her content helped her become relatable.
So she was able to grow to over 30,000 followers in just 8 months!
But, she was still broke AF.
That was because no one wanted to sponsor her Instagram page.
So she brainstormed ideas to make money from her account.
She realized that she loved creating meal plans and workout plans for herself.
She thought “Why not make one and sell it to my followers?”
So Grace began making a PDF document, and in just one day she had a full workout plan ready to sell.
She sold it for just $30, and it f***ing BLEW UP.
She sold over $15,000 worth of PDFs within the first day!
Talk about a finesse!
The business model was so simple, it was 3 steps:
1. Make the fitness PDF once
2. Create content around that product
3. Profit🤑
So this is how Grace developed her PDF product:
1. To write the PDF, she used Microsoft Word and documented her workout plan and recipes she used to help her lose weight and gain muscle.
2. To design the PDF, she spoke to her friend who was good at graphic design, and they designed an outline on Canva.com.
3. To actually sell the PDF, she used a website called Shopify.com and used their digital downloads plugin that would automatically send each customer their PDF.
Since she was selling a digital product, there was no limit to how many she could sell.
So she would constantly post on her Instagram page and she eventually brought in over $10,000,000 in sales!
The three keys to Grace’s business being successful were:
1. She sold a product that helped solve her own problems first, which was losing weight.
2. She sold a digital product, which meant she could sell as many as she wanted and spent no money on inventory.
3. She chose one marketing channel, which was Instagram. This made it easy to know who to sell to and how to market to them.
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Takeaway and Tips:
Selling a digital product is one of the best ways to make money online. A digital product can be an e-book, an online course, a PDF, or an online guide. Selling physical products can cause a lot of problems, like paying for shipping, paying for inventory, and customer service issues. Grace was able to sell over $10,000,000 worth of PDFs, and over 80% was profit because she didn’t spend any money on shipping or product development.
Pick a market that has a good amount of competition in it. Losing weight is a problem that almost everyone has, so it was a great market for Grace to get into. She solved the problem she had, which was weight loss, so she knew that plenty of other people had the same problem.
2. She was relatable AF.
Have you guys seen Wendy’s tweets?
They are honestly freaking hilarious.
Wendy’s just comes out of nowhere with the most petty and clever tweets imaginable.
People love these tweets for two reasons:
1. Their roasts are funny AF, not gonna lie.
2. These tweets make them seem relatable.
The relatability makes people trust their brand, and want to buy from them.
And trust is the most important factor in business.
No one is trying to give money to someone who looks shady AF.
No one is buying from this guy
That is why Grace was able to sell her PDF like hotcakes.
Grace said that her Instagram content in the beginning was trash.
Literally, she would just vlog about her taking a test in university.
Now that sounds terribly boring.
But it was actually a high-IQ play.
Since her videos were kinda boring and low quality, it helped people relate to her more.
Now on social media, people are more drawn to lower quality content.
This is because high-quality content screams “corporate”.
People want to see people who are just like them, so they can imagine themselves in their shoes.
For this reason, Grace was able to spend a whopping $0 on advertising.
Instead, all she would do is post the link to her online PDF in her bio on Instagram.
Then she would make longer form content like vlogs and put them on YouTube.
In her vlogs, she used very minimal editing and she would speak about her daily struggles to connect with her audience.
All of these tactics allowed her to make her audience feel like they had a real connection with her, which made selling her product easy like Sunday morning.
MARKETING
Takeaway and Tips:
When marketing your business, make sure to build trust with your brand. The more your audience trusts you, the more likely they will buy from you and support your brand.
When creating content, make sure to make your editing very minimal, because the more raw and authentic your content feels, the more likely people will resonate with your content. Your content can’t look horrible, but a lower budget is totally fine.
