đź’…She makes $50M turning girls into baddies

Her lashes are helping girls get more matches.

This 26-year-old makes $50 million a year selling magnetic eyelashes.

“In today’s climate, you need to be incredible at content and the creative.”

- Ann Mcferran: Age 26, CEO of “Glamnetic”

Howdy!

Calling all my fav boss babes! I’m back this week with an entrepreneur that built a business in one of the most competitive fields ever, makeup and beauty. We’re going to look at Ann Mcferran and her company Glamnetic. Glamnetic is beauty brand that sells different beauty products from eyeliner to press on nails. But their main product is magnetic eyelashes.

And in 10 minutes or less, you’re going to learn:

✔️How switching industries made her millions

✔️Why you NEED to “up-sell”

✔️Why hiring experts sharpens the learning curve

QUICK SUMMARY
TLDR:

Ann started Glamnetic when she was 25. Ann was always great with makeup because at a young age she wanted fit in, and she wanted her eyes to look more Caucasian because she went to a predominately white school. This caused her to become an expert with eyelashes, and she noticed that all of the magnetic eyelashes on the market were TRASH.

So Ann started to research on how to develop a product through a manufacturer and sell it. She literally watched a ton of YouTube videos, and once she knew enough she contacted over 500 suppliers from China to build her product! After trial and error, she found the best quality product and ordered 100 units and began to sell them.

To sell the lashes, she grew and Instagram page by just posting funny memes. Once she reached 10,000 followers, she switched the page to promote her brand Glamnetic. On the first day of launch, she made $1,000! Then, she hired someone on Upwork.com to make ads on Instagram and Facebook, and by the end of the year they brought in $30,000,000!!

I love seeing stories like this.

Because believe it or not, Ann is the underdog.

They say beauty is pain, and that is also true for the makeup business.

So many companies like Sephora, Ulta, and Maybeline make it hard AF to build a makeup brand.

So how did Ann “girl boss” it up?

Simple.

She just made her product 10 times better than anyone else’s.

1. She was tired of being a starving artist.

Who doesn’t love a great come-up story?

We hear stories about people who started from the bottom and chased their dreams to make millions all the time.

And what is the one thing that people always tell you to do?

They tell you to work hard.

And when I mean hard, I mean hard AF.

I mean rocket science hard.

I mean David Goggins hard.

Now even though I agree with them, they are missing one truth about business.

And that is that you must work hard AND work smart.

You must apply your work to the right market so you can see success.

That’s how my girl Ann went from a starving artist to a multi millionaire in under 2 years.

Ann was 25 when she started her brand Glamnetic, a makeup brand.

But before she was painting people’s faces, she was just painting regularly.

She would sell her paintings online through Instagram, but the business wasn’t that lucrative.

Then she started brainstorming ideas so she wouldn’t end up like Squidward here.

She thought about what she was good at, and makeup came to mind.

Ann was the GOAT at putting on eyelashes at a very young age.

This was because she moved from Thailand to America, and all her friends were white.

She wanted to fit in and look like her friends, so she started wearing eyelashes to make her eyes look less Asian.

Eventually, she got so good at eyelashes that all her friends started asking her how to do it.

Now this was easier said then done.

Because even though Ann was an expert, every other eyelash company was straight ASS.

The lashes would always fall off, and they were ugly and low quality.

That is when Ann decided to create a better magnetic eyelash.

So this is how Ann developed her magnetic eyelash:

1. To find a manufacturer, she literally went on YouTube and searched “product development”. Then once she figured out how that worked, she started speaking with suppliers. Click here to see a video about the basics of product development.

2. She found eyelash suppliers in China and began messaging them to see if they could build what she is looking for. Ann created a special type of eyeliner that has iron oxide in it. This makes the eyeliner you put on magnetic, without having the mess of gluing them on. You can find plenty of Chinese suppliers by going to a website called Alibaba.com.

3. She asked for a sample from multiple different suppliers, and she inspected each one. Ann compared each prototype and chose the highest quality one to be the first Glamnetic product.

And the final product is pretty fire!!

The three keys to Ann’s business being successful were:

1. She built a product to solve a problem that she had herself.

2. She took her skills in creating art and brought that into building her makeup brand.

3. She built a product with up-sells. An up-sell is when a company bundles products together to entice you to buy more.

PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Takeaway and Tips:

When selling a product, create plenty of different products that complement each other. For Glamnetic, customers have to buy the eyeliner with the lashes, because the eyeliner is what gives the lashes the magnetic property. So for the product to fully work you need multiple products. Buying multiple products means more revenue an a higher chance for repeat customers.

When building a business, its important to choose the correct market. No matter how good you are, its hard to make money in a market with no money available. A great market is a market where other people are already making a ton of money. Ann knew this and switched from selling her own paintings to selling in one of the biggest markets in the world, beauty.

When coming into a competitive market, the one thing that will separate you is your product. If you are just starting out, your product has to be at LEAST 10 times better then your competition, because if its not, then nobody will put in the effort to give you a chance. Focus on building the best product on the market and spend as much money possible on development when entering a tough market.

2. She built the Avengers of makeup for marketing.

When starting a business, people get confused.

They see people like Bill Gates and Zuckerberg and they see them as Gods.

Like they could do no wrong and they did everything themselves.

But that’s a lie.

People think that they have to be Superman when starting a business.

They have to do everything themselves and be good at it.

Look at those shoulders good lord!

Even though my boy Superman is f***ing jacked, he’s not realistic.

When building a business, don’t think of yourself as Superman.

Think of your business like the Avengers.

You should try to build a team of experts around you to each add unique value to the business.

And that is how Ann was able to blow up her marketing strategy.

Ann first marketed her Glamnetic eyelashes through Instagram.

She did this by starting a page just re-posting memes.

That’s right, she literally started her business being a meme lord.

Once her page hit about 10,000 followers, she posted about her new magnetic eyelash product.

And she made over $1,000 in the first day!!

Ann wanted to keep pushing this, but she had no idea how to run ads.

So she hired someone from a website called Upwork.com to create advertisements for her.

Then, Ann recorded a video of herself using the product and talking about the benefits.

And that sh*t BLEW UP.

This method was genius for her brand because:

1. Customers appreciated that she used her own products, which created trust with her brand.

2. Since she had someone else running her ads, she could focus on other parts of her business like product development.

Ann consistently created more organic content on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.

While this was happening, she had a business partner who was working behind the scenes and growing the brand.

Her business partner was able to create a deal for her company to be sold in physical stores like Ulta and Sephora!!

Pretty soon, after just one year she was able to grow her business to over $30,000,000!!

MARKETING
Takeaway and Tips:

When marketing your business, make content that is relatable. This will make it so that your advertisement doesn’t look like one. You could do this by lowering the quality of your production, using a simple iPhone camera. Also, bring your own face and personality behind your business so your potential customer can relate with you.

Find people to join your company who are good at things that you suck at. Your goal is to find a team of people who are great at one specific thing, so you can build a team of people who work great together.

PRACTICAL SECTION
How to start a business just like this one

1. First you need to make sure someone will make you a great product. You need to find a supplier who can give you a great prototype product and send it to you quickly. Below are 3 websites where you can find great cheap manufacturers.

2. Next you need a website to sell your product. You can use a website called Shopify or Wix to start designing your website, and link people from your advertisments to your online store.

3. Next you need to market your product. I suggest starting with free organic marketing by using websites like TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram. If you want to spend money to grow your brand faster, then you can use ads on these websites. If you want to hire someone to run your ads, you can go to two different websites called Upwork or Fiverr.
